Amazon Alexa offers compatibility with a wide variety of products. Here’s an overview of Alexa-compatible devices to find the best gadget for your needs.
Today, Amazon’s virtual assistant, Alexa, is everywhere. Since releasing the first-generation Echo speaker in 2014, the company has created an extensive ecosystem of smart home products. Now you can find Alexa-compatible smart speakers, smart displays, and more, and the list grows every year.
In 2021, Amazon announced several new gadgets and Alexa features at its annual product event in September, including the Echo Show 15, Amazon Smart Thermostat, Amazon Glow Kids Edition, Halo View fitness tracker, and the highly anticipated Astro robot. In addition, we also saw several new Ring products.
Not to mention the myriad of Alexa-compatible devices currently on the market from companies other than Amazon. In short, Alexa still reigns supreme when it comes to smart home integration.
There’s a lot to navigate when trying to put together your own Alexa-powered smart home. To that end, we’ve broken down the best Alexa-compatible devices currently available. You’ll also find many of these devices on sale right now. We update this list regularly, so please check back often for the latest recommendations. Here are some of the best Alexa devices.
Amazon Echo (fourth-gen)
Best Alexa device overall (and the best smart speaker)
Amazon’s third-generation Echo Dot with Clock was our previous favorite Alexa speaker, but with the 2020 lineup, the fourth-generation flagship Echo speaker gets a nod. At $100, the spherical speaker is more expensive than the $50 fourth-generation Amazon Echo Dot, although it’s currently $40 cheaper for Prime members, and with improved sound quality and some interesting smart home, features to justify the extra cost. Amazon Echo 4th Gen is the best Alexa device in 2022 and users are giving good reviews about it.
The smart device’s form factor sets Amazon’s new Echo speaker apart. The sound quality of the third-generation Echo is almost imperceptible compared to its predecessor
Amazon Echo Dot With Clock (4th Gen)
The Echo Dot with Clock is one of the best alarm clocks on the market and I’ve been using it for years. The digital clock is easy to read in the dark, and you can set it to play your favorite music to wake you up in the morning. The Dot with Clock also tells you the weather forecast as you’re getting dressed for the day. In the kitchen, the display shows you how much time is left on a timer, which is really helpful when you’re cooking.
The latest fourth-generation Dot comes in two models, one with a clock and one without. They look very similar, both being round like the standard Echo (our top pick). This means that the Dot projects sound even farther than before. However, you’ll likely need a bigger speaker if you want to enjoy anything other than background music while you’re getting dressed or cooking.
Wyze Cam v3 (2020)
Best Smart Camera
The third-generation Wyze Cam is just $36 like its predecessor, but this smart home device is one of our favorite cameras, in part because of its low price. It has a weatherproof body, sharper night vision than its predecessor, a wider field of view, a loud siren, and more – including 14 days of video clip storage and a built-in microSD card slot for local storage.
If you have an Echo Show smart display, you can also bring your Wyze Cam’s feed to the screen with a simple voice command.
Amazon Echo Show 8 (2nd Gen)
The Echo Show 8 has been our favorite smart display for Alexa for two generations in a row for good reason. We like this size more than the 5- and 10-inch versions; the smaller of which felt like a weird smartphone, and the larger felt like a weird tablet that spins around everywhere.
This one is like Goldilocks’ perfect porridge; it’s just big enough that weather updates, video chats, and recipes show up clearly, but compact enough that it doesn’t take up too much valuable countertop space. The 2021 model is nearly identical to the old one but has a much better camera and the ability to use it as a security camera when you’re away from home.
Ask Alexa to “answer the front door” when someone rings your Ring Peephole Cam and you can see the live feed on your Show 8 — and actually talk to the person, straight from the smart display.
August Wi-Fi Smart Lock
Best Castle
The August Wi-Fi Smart Lock is an excellent smart lock. It can be retrofitted to most standard latches so you don’t have to deal with complicated installations. Integrated Wi-Fi allows remote access and control of your smart lock via an Android or iOS app without the need for an August Connect module. As its placement on this list suggests, it’s also an Alexa-compatible device—meaning you can lock and unlock your door by making a sound from your Alexa-enabled smart speaker.
The lock is also equipped with an open/close sensor – called DoorSense – attached to the associated door. So the app can tell you not only whether the door is locked or unlocked, but also whether it is open or closed. This easy-to-use smart lock is packed with great features.
Amazon Smart Thermostat
Best Smart Thermostat
Amazon’s $60 smart thermostat is hard to beat for value and full price. Grab it for a discount (it’s down to $42 right now) if you’re looking for smart home bargains.
For starters, the thermostat works just as well as Alexa because it’s an Amazon product. So if you have an Echo speaker or an Echo Show display, you should be in good shape to get the most out of the device. Even for those who don’t, the thermostat offers a simple, no-nonsense design that looks and feels great on the wall, and its energy-saving settings can even save you up to $50 a year.
Amazon Wyze Bulb
best smart light bulb
Wyze is known for its ultra-affordable prices, and its WiFi-connected smart bulbs are no exception. A 2-pack of standard white bulbs costs $23, but a fully color-changing version is only $27 for a 2-pack, and it’s worth it even if you’re just a bust. Which is worth it even if you’ll only break those colors out on rare holiday occasions.
Either way, you’re getting a 2-pack of Alexa-compatible bulbs that connect directly to your home internet network via Wi-Fi. Screw them in, connect via the Wyze app and you’re ready to go.
Colors aside, the Wyze bulbs have a great range of white light, from candlelight-like to daylight-white. Plus, despite the low price, they produce better brightness than many bulbs that sell for more.
Ring Alarm Pro
Best DIY home security system
While other DIY home security systems work well with Alexa, the Ring Alarm Pro offers great performance with its unique built-in Alexa integration. In fact, with a higher-end Ring Protect Plus subscription, you even get Alexa’s security feature, Guard Plus, for free. That means Alexa will listen for broken glass or footsteps when you’re away, and alert you if there’s a problem.
In addition to Alexa integration, Ring Alarm Plus offers amazing features like a built-in Wi-Fi 6 gateway, internet backup, local processing and storage (a first for Ring), cellular backup, professional-grade monitoring, and more. An eight-tier system costs $300, and subscriptions range from $3 to $20 a month—the most expensive of which is still lower than some of its top competitors. All in all, this system is of great value.
Amazon Echo Buds (2021)
We liked the old Echo Buds, but we’re even bigger fans of the 2021 update (8/10, WIRED Recommends). Amazon’s new earbuds come with wireless charging, noise-canceling tech, and a surprisingly ergonomic fit. Better microphones mean that Alexa voice controls work even in loud environments. The overall experience of using the headphones feels like a future we’ve seen in sci-fi movies. Need to set a timer, check the weather, or see what happened with your favorite sports team? Just ask these earbuds. Best of all, these usually cost $120, but the price has recently dipped to as low as $50, making them an even better value proposition.
Amazon Echo Studio
The Amazon Echo Studio is for those who want the best sound possible from an Alexa device. With 350 watts of power and a downward-firing subwoofer, it produces more low-end than most other speakers its size. Plus, it has an upward-firing midrange speaker in addition to two side-facing ones, which makes the Echo Studio capable of playing 3D audio codecs like Dolby Atmos. In fact, the speaker automatically “upmixes” your music from standard stereo to better fill your space.
Amazon Echo Sub
If you have some small Echo speakers around the house but their bass output isn’t quite enough, consider adding an Echo Sub. This wireless subwoofer can easily integrate with any Amazon-made speaker, and it can make a big difference in the quality of the bass lines. Just be aware that it might also annoy your downstairs neighbors!

I’ve observed that in the world of today, video games will be the latest phenomenon with kids of all ages. Occasionally it may be not possible to drag your kids away from the activities. If you want the best of both worlds, there are lots of educational gaming activities for kids. Great post.
I have noticed that car insurance companies know the automobiles which are susceptible to accidents and various risks. Additionally, these people know what type of cars are given to higher risk plus the higher risk they have got the higher your premium amount. Understanding the basic basics involving car insurance just might help you choose the right kind of insurance policy which will take care of your family needs in case you happen to be involved in an accident. Thank you for sharing your ideas with your blog.

Thanks for discussing your ideas right here. The other matter is that when a problem develops with a computer motherboard, people should not go ahead and take risk involving repairing this themselves because if it is not done properly it can lead to permanent damage to the whole laptop. Most commonly it is safe just to approach a dealer of a laptop for your repair of that motherboard. They will have technicians who definitely have an skills in dealing with notebook motherboard problems and can get the right analysis and conduct repairs.
One other thing I would like to express is that as opposed to trying to match all your online degree lessons on times that you finish off work (since the majority people are fatigued when they return), try to get most of your instructional classes on the weekends and only one or two courses for weekdays, even if it means a little time away from your saturday and sunday. This pays off because on the saturdays and sundays, you will be a lot more rested and also concentrated with school work. Thx for the different guidelines I have learned from your web site.
Write more, thats all I have to say. Literally, it seems as though you relied on the video to make your point. You clearly know what youre talking about, why throw away your intelligence on just posting videos to your site when you could be giving us something enlightening to read?
Greetings! I’ve been following your website for a long time now and finally got the courage to go ahead and give you a shout out from Huffman Texas! Just wanted to say keep up the good job!
very nice post, i definitely love this website, carry on it
Hey, honestly your site is coming along :-), but I had a question – it’s a bit slow. Have you thought about using a different host like propel? It’d help your visitors stick around longer = more profit long term anyway. There’s a decent review on it by this guy who uses gtmetrix to test different hosting providers and the whole video has a bunch of gold in it, worth checking out.
you might have an incredible weblog right here! would you wish to make some invite posts on my blog?
I was recommended this blog by my cousin. I’m not sure whether this post is written by him as nobody else know such detailed about my trouble. You’re amazing! Thanks!
Thanks for the advice on credit repair on this amazing web-site. Things i would tell people will be to give up the particular mentality that they’ll buy at this moment and shell out later. Being a society all of us tend to do that for many issues. This includes vacations, furniture, plus items we really want to have. However, you must separate one’s wants from the needs. When you’re working to raise your credit score you really have to make some sacrifices. For example you may shop online to economize or you can turn to second hand merchants instead of pricey department stores for clothing.
I抦 not that much of a internet reader to be honest but your blogs really nice, keep it up! I’ll go ahead and bookmark your website to come back down the road. Many thanks
There is evidently a bunch to realize about this. I believe you made various nice points in features also.
I do agree with all the ideas you have presented in your post. They are very convincing and will certainly work. Still, the posts are too short for beginners. Could you please extend them a little from next time? Thanks for the post.
Thanks – Enjoyed this update, how can I make is so that I get an email sent to me when there is a new article?
